LYRICS

Verse 1

Around the same time dude died in Logan
I was barely 18 but I was homeless
My parents bounced, they went down south
But for real down south, Mexico down south
My oldest brother took over my parents house
To this day, I don’t know why, but that dude kicked me out
& I slept on floors, futons & your couch
I used to scrap up dollars so I could cop me an ounce
Flip to buy food & smoke my homies out
Back then I guzzled 40′s & lived loud
I would rap all day, Hiphop was my spouse !
And I ain’t do shit else, I was a fuckin slouch
Man, my life was fucked up and I was fucked up
& every chance I would have, I would get fucked up!
Popped pills, did shrooms but that was it with the drugs
I was going through depression , my life was bugged

Hook -

Welcome to my world  ! yeah this is it
Hiphop!
Naw, not that bullshit
Naw!
Ain’t no fashion …  no flashin
Just passion, reality & action!
Gotta know what it was to know what’s happens
Gotta know what it was to know what happens!

Verse 2

And the whole time I’m  weeded, feeling defeated
I looked at my culture ta defeat the demons
I blasted beats & squeezed pens
From the start, I never copied any legends
I just wrote what I felt & I felt crazy
I think the liks & the trees made me spacey
Or maybe the empty fridge made feel like shit
Or the eviction notice I got from that bitch !
It’s a cold world and I learned that quick
So I got cold & got on my shit!
I wasn’t a rapper that was living with momma
So I didn’t live dreams, I lived drama
Every day of the week, I was in those streets
Paying my Hiphop dues & making ends meet
Logan, Humboldt park , Pilsen was me
26th, Hyde Park, Rogers park was me

Hook -

Welcome to my world  ! yeah this is it
Hiphop!
Naw, not that bullshit
Naw!
Ain’t no fashion …  no flashin
Just passion, reality & action!
Gotta know what it was to know what’s happens
Gotta know what it was to know what’s gonna happen!

This will be a series of songs from my perspective. From growing up around Chicago legends like the Molemen,Vakill,Rhymefest, Cap D & Juice to MC battles, concerts, and other experiences

LYRICS

Verse 1

When I saw that dude die
I didn’t see a single man cry,
it was sickening, I saw it with my eyes
It happened at the Royal,
Fullerton/Milwaukee
Now its a 7-11, the hipsters  love it
It started inside when a scuffle erupted
Someone let off a shot while the party was bumpin
They took it to the street and the crowd followed behind
They were screaming face to face, evil looks in the eyes  8
Then, one pulled a knife and just stuck it in his side
It’s a sick image that’s stuck in my mind
There was blood on the street and I heard the women scream
It was a crazy scene, a few people called police
And I’ll be honest homeboy, thats some shit I aint wanna see
Cuz I’m all about peace but its some shit I had to see
I ain’t never been a thug, a goon or fool
So I ain’t never been the type to think that type of shit was cool 16
This whole thing just messed with me for weeks
“I just wanna MC”, that’s what I would think,
I was so naive but I began to see,
So I said Fuck TV and them damn magazines
I don’t wanna live a dream, I wanna live reality
Back then I bumped BDP & PRT
Nas, Wu, Gangstarr & DITC
That’s real shit homie & Fuck the police!
24

Hook -

This is the  history …
Remember hiphop ?
These are my roots …  Forever hiphop
If you don’t know … then learn hiphop
This is for you … Chicago hip hop !

Verse 2

Yeah, Fuck the police
Cuz they ain’t show up till homie was dead
And the ambulance might as well have never left
For the next few weeks, you’d see a tag or a piece
With the name Isaac then R.I.P.
All through Logan square that’s all I would see
It was his crew showing loyalty, love & peace
But look man, I ain’t gonna tarnish our history
It wasn’t all bullshit & tragedy 8
But I’m here to show my city & make sure ya’ll respect it
A street Walter Jacobson, this is my perspective
So, ima take you back to the same spot (Royal)
Dj Spryte & Intel would rock !
And Konee Rok would be there with his boys
Up rockin, foot working b-boyys
And of course the Mc’s would have to pay dues
If you were not, then oh, bad news 16
Cuz dudes like prime would spit raps to bruise
I’ve seen this dude take out whole crews
He had the whole crowd with the ah’s and ooww’s
And the 1/2 ass rappers left with egos bruised20
Those were them Nacrobat days, them ill nature days
Those “oh you think you nice?,
Then we gonna battle” days
This was years before Prime entered Blaze
Or Eminem went up against Juice and got slayed ….

LYRICS

Verse 1

You weren’t there, it started in my parent’s basement ,
it was just a home but hip-hop changed it
Give em an mpc and Panik made it
Hip-hop in my crib with dusty breaks in It
And I was there like “man, just take in”
I lived in the moment
Ha, I lived with the Molemen
Imagine Vakill spittin lines to kill
Right in front of you and every line you would feel
Or Juice freestylin, just wylin and vibin
Listening to beats bang in a way that was violent
he’d turnaround and look at me and Yup I was smiling
Rhyme Fest and I could talk shit all day
But I’d crack a few jokes and be on my way
I’ll never forget the day I heard Cap D say
“when’s Panik gonna put you on?”
And in a strange way, that made me the way I am today
I work like I’m insane, I don’t play
I didn’t like the sound of anybody putting me on
But straight up I can’t front, thank you for the guidance
The sessions in that basement, were not the basics
It was next level shit, I had to respect the greatness
It was where the Chicago elite would come to meet
&
Grab a landscape so they could paint away
Just a teen, living a dream
Learning from each

Hook -

You weren’t there
Only I can see …
Plus a few true legends,
Listen, I am ME
Look I paid my dues so Hip-hop is me
And Chicago knows so keep an eye on me
I’ve seen em rise, I’ve seen em fall
Y’all don’t know this culture, I’ve seen it all
Before the net, the streets were here
I was all in them spots and you weren’t there

Verse 2

You weren’t there at my first concert at the Congress
Beatnuts, Organized Konfusion and Common 2
The crowd was crazy not just standin and starin
Reaction! Emotion was apparent 4
The Beatnuts killed it, I remember so clear
that’s why to this day they still get props over here
And either Pharohe was sick or the promoter was on bullshit
But he ain’t show, regardless Po killed the show
Haha and ya’ll think Common is soft?
Shhh … that night he went off!
Some dude pulled his Mic chord
And Yup, it was on!
It was unreal like, “what was I on”
Him and NO ID stomped the whole first row
With Timbaland boots, I was like whoaaaa!
My very 1st show and already, 5-0
But this would set the tone for hip-hop in the go
And I ain’t even spoke on the local shows
Back then it was Humble Quest and on da Lo
Euphonics and Chicago Tribe
Bboys,Mc’s,d’s, kings
4′s and vicelords all in the same scene
Shit was crazy, every week a fight
And to be honest it was no surprise
But I was shocked the night I seen that dude die …

Hook -

You weren’t there
Only I can see …
Plus a few true legends,
Listen, I am ME
Look I paid my dues so Hip-hop is me
And Chicago knows so keep an eye on me
I’ve seen em rise, I’ve seen em fall
Y’all don’t know this culture, I’ve seen it all
Before the net, the streets were here
I was all in them spots and you weren’t there
